It’s pretty common knowledge these days that stress is bad for you, but really that’s not the whole story. What we commonly refer to as stress is actually distress. There’s another type of stress and that’s called eustress. It’s the opposite of distress. Eustress helps our minds and bodies adapt to our environment.Continue reading

Up the Intensity!!!
When we talk about exercise, intensity invariably becomes a discussion topic. I don’t think exercise intensity is well understood by most people. I think a large part of that, is because the word intensity is a poor word to describe what we really mean. I think difficulty or challenge would be a better option.Continue reading
What The Hell is a Calorie!?
Every time some one I know starts “dieting” all they can talk about is calories. People are obsessed with calories! I don’t think most people even know what a calorie really is. I’m not even convinced they have very much to do with food value at all!Continue reading
Playing in the Rain
It’s been raining here for almost 2 weeks! We just had our first really nice day in a while, and it was really nice! Almost 70 in the middle of January. I was so tempted to call out of work and enjoy the day it’s not even funny! Luckily I work outside a lot so I got to enjoy it some anyway.Continue reading
Too Many Priorities is the Same as No Priorities
You can only focus on so many things within a given time period. This holds true for anything you want to do. Exercise is no exception. I have always had a bad habit of trying to accomplish too many divergent goals at the same time. What I have learned over the years, is how to prioritize and focus on what is most important too me.Continue reading
Processed Food Isn’t Really Bad for You
Yup. You read that right. Processed food isn’t inherently bad for you. That problem is a misunderstanding of what processed food really is. What we commonly think of as processed food today is more like industrial food product. Whereas processed food has been around pretty much as long as humans have.Continue reading
2017 Baselines
After yesterday’s goal declarations I thought I better put out some baselines. Without baselines, it’s a lot harder to track progress. I’ll put out monthly updates so that I can see my progress toward my goals. I don’t think I’ll be filming my 5 mile run. Sounds boring.Continue reading
Movement Goals for 2017
I decided that this would be a great way to start the new year and my blog!
A lot of these goals are mobility related. All that time sitting in a truck at work has really affected my flexibility. My first goal, however, is a strength skill. I want to get my first strict muscle up. I’d also like to be able to hold a good handstand for 1 minute. I used to be able to do it many years ago and I’d like to get back there.
My next two goals are both flexibility goals. I want to be able to do a middle split. I think this is a pretty ambitious goal because of the time table. I’d also like to be able to put my chest to my knees in a forward bend. Another ambitious goal.
Lastly, I’d like to get back into running. I haven’t run much in years and I’d like to work back up to a five mile run once a week.
Now to get my plan together to knock these out!
